On Doors

Yesterday after Church and Meetings, Luci and I went on *"Visits." We came to this one door that looked something like this:

Only the peep box or whatever you want to call it was closed. And we sat there staring at it, trying to decide if it really did open, and what would we do if someone opened it? And I mentioned that these doors scare me, and I would never, ever have one because, really. If I was home and someone came to my door, and I wanted to see who it was, but didn't want them to know I was home? This really wouldn't work out so well for me. Also, it's so intimidating! We felt very apologetic, being there, and were somewhat relieved that no one responded to our knocking.

Then Luci wanted to see if it was possible for someone to punch you in the eye as you were looking to see who was at the door, so she stuck her fist between the bars, and then we ran away.

*I have to put it in quotation marks, because every time I go on visits, without fail, basically no one is home or we get severely rejected. This has happened to me 100% of the time since January when I was first called to this position.

The Work

Yesterday at work, Miss Pemberly alerted me to the fact that she only had 10 days left of work. This is sad, but I try not to think about it. Instead it got me to thinking about approximately how many more days I'll be working at my current place of employment, and, if my calculations are correct, then that number is 100, give or take 3 weeks or so (12 days). I should do something awesome for myself these remaining 100 days. Like... I don't know. But something.

Also, the Holiday shopping season is upon us, and that is somewhat less than awesome. However, I think I'll have all of my Christmas shopping done by November 9, which should be good.

P.S. How soon is it no longer too soon to start putting up my Christmas lights/tree? Really. I want to know.

Kiss the Cook

Lately, I've been really into collecting recipes. Of course, I never cook any of them, but there's this idea of Someday this will be delicious. Anyway, my collection is getting to be somewhat sizable. And I want to print them all off and compile my own recipe book. Here's the thing, though. I'm lazy, and so... I don't. Also, I want to have these recipes organized, you know? Because that makes sense. So, here is my cry for help. Have any of you, dear readers, ever compiled your own recipe book? How did you do it? Do you have any tips, suggestions, ideas, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera? DO YOU WANT TO DO IT FOR ME??? (We could be BFFs! I know! Everyone wants to be my BFF!)

Also, a few weeks ago I bought this amazing cookbook at work. I think there are maybe only 2 or 3 recipes out of the whole book that I would not eat. It helps, probably, that the whole book is dedicated to my favorite food group (Chocolate!). If I ever get the energy/time to cook out of it, I will try to blog the great adventures.

Ok. I am done killing time now. Off to class!

Mini-Update

I swear, my life really is not that exciting right now. You are not missing much when I do not blog!

On that note, we just had our "Fall Break" (what used to be called the Dear Hunt ... er Deer Hunt here in the Ootah), so I took the opportunity to skip town. Had I been able to afford it, I probably would have skipped all the way to California, because we all know that is my favorite place to be. However, not enough monies. Plus, I had this free ticket to go see The Scarlet Pimpernel at the Hale, and who is going to pass that up? Not me! (It was amazingly well done. I would go again. Seriously!) On my little trip, I was actually kept pretty well busy. Forgive me if you didn't know I was in your neighborhood; my time filled up much too quickly for me to tell everyone I was coming.

Friday, shortly after I arrived in the PTown, I met with my ILP Taiwan Rep. I AM SO EXCITED! I know, I say this basically every time I mention Taiwan to anyone, but TR made me even MORE excited to go. I turned in all of my Documents Packet except for the movie/video thingy. Still have to get on that. I'm really kind of nervous to make a video of me "teaching" and telling a story. Plus, whose child am I going to borrow for this thing? I have too many options! Or maybe I'll teach a pretend child. I haven't fully decided yet; I'm not sure which will be more humiliating: me talking to a camera with no one else in the room, or me talking to a child on a camera. I DO NOT LIKE CAMERAS! (This brings to mind that one home video we have of me saying "Dad, I wanna go bed. I wanna go bed, Dad" because I hated the camera so much, even as a small child!) So, yeah. Good times. Both schools are located in the middle-ish of the west side of the island, with Taipei being 3 hours-ish north? Correct me if I'm wrong and you know.

I also saw my Kalia, whom I haven't seen since the day she moved out of our apartment nearly 6 years ago. So long! (Hi, Kalia! I love you!) She has cute babies, and now I want to buy them all kinds of presents. Because that's what you do for cute people, right? Buy them presents?

Meanwhile, midterms went a lot better than expected, especially considering I didn't even study for 5 minutes for two of my exams. Yep, aced both of those. Still not sure what my score was on the Geology midterm, but I did study for that. And then just gave up because science=no hope.

Anyway, that's about all I've got this week.

Oh, except, if you have any ideas on what I should teach on in Relief Society in 3 weeks, let me know. I'm used to having my lesson more or less done by this point, and, as of today, I haven't a clue of what my topic will be. So, yes. Suggestions welcome.

Supposedly I am studying for an exam that I am going to be taking in the next few minutes here. Umm... Yeah, that's going well.  Sometimes it's hard to be super motivated when you know the best that you are going to do is not great.

Anyway.

A week or two ago it was all rainy and gorgeous here in the southwest country. Dad and I went down to the temple Sunday afternoon (conference Sunday) and took pictures once the rain had died down and the sun came out. Or maybe it didn't actually rain that day? I don't remember any more.

Since I've been lacking much of anything else to blog about, I thought I'd just share with you some of my favorite pictures from that day. Enjoy!

Sometimes I have to remind myself that this whole going-back-to-school thing is going to be worth it. It can be easy to forget when you're at [edited] State College. However, last night, I got a big, blessed reminder that, HEY, SCHOOL IS GOING TO PAY OFF! AND SOON!

(Are you ready for this?)

I AM PRE-QUALIFIED TO GO TEACH ENGLISH IN TAIWAN!!!!! I got my acceptance email from ILP yesterday (while at work, no less), and started squeeing in the break-room, jumping up and down. So now I've got this packet thing to fill out and send back to ILP, a diploma to officially receive, and a contract to sign. And then I'm off to Asia to start my next adventure.
