So, just barely I almost killed myself and my fish in one blow by tipping backwards in my chair. Good thing my bookcase didn't fall over. (My fish and I are both OK, thank you.)
There was a big, ugly, scary looking white spider in my car just barely. It was alive. "Was" being the key word there. I just killed it, all by myself. Without screaming, even! Probably because no one would have heard me and it might have scared the spider into moving, which would not have been a blessing and would have scared me even more. The end.
Once upon a time I made a peach pie and it was heavenly. Then my roommates ate it all (actually, I did, but I'm blaming them). So the next day I made another peach pie. It was just as heavenly as the first and this time my roommates really did eat it all (OK, so we had a few guests over). Once upon a time, again, I made an apple pie. I decided that I like my peach pies better, but this one was still pretty good. It didn't even last 12 hours.
Can you please ask Dad if he knows where my Moomintroll books are? I want to read them again. Or if you know where they are. Either way, I know they're in a box in the garage. Or possibly the shed. But I want them!
Every time one of my roommates says they want to keep something on the DL (for down-low, you know), I automatically think "Dragon Lady" and get really confused.
So my roommate Claire has two favorite sins: The show Friends and her two jean "mini" skirts (they were almost knee-length). Monday night we, as an apartment and group of supportive people-type friends, decided to help her get rid of one of her favorite sins. BB, Saria, and I locked Claire out of her room as we searched for the mini skirts, then the four of us and two friends (and later Saria's boyfriend) went over to a nearby parking lot and lit the skirts on fire. It was freaking awesome!
Sometimes, in our earthly impatience, we may lose sight of the Lord’s precious promises and disconnect our obedience from the fulfillment of these promises. The Lord has declared:
“Who am I, saith the Lord, that have promised and have not fulfilled?
“I command and men obey not; I revoke and they receive not the blessing.
“Then they say in their hearts: This is not the work of the Lord, for his promises are not fulfilled. But wo unto such, for their reward lurketh beneath, and not from above” (D&C 58:31–33).
...
The Apostle Peter testified that “the Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering” toward us (2 Peter 3:9). In this age of one-hour dry cleaning and one-minute fast-food franchises, it may at times seem to us as though a loving Heavenly Father has misplaced our precious promises or He has put them on hold or filed them under the wrong name. Such were the feelings of Rachel.
But with the passage of time, we encounter four of the most beautiful words in holy writ: “And God remembered Rachel” (Genesis 30:22). And she was blessed with the birth of Joseph and later the birth of Benjamin. There are millions on earth today who are descendants of Joseph who have embraced the Abrahamic promise that through their efforts “shall all the families of the earth be blessed, even with the blessings of the Gospel, which are the blessings of salvation, even of life eternal” (Abraham 2:11).
When heaven’s promises sometimes seem afar off, I pray that each of us will embrace these exceeding great and precious promises and never let go. And just as God remembered Rachel, God will remember you. I so testify in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
I actually meant to blog about this Tuesday after I got home from class, but I guess I got distracted. Anyway, I'm feeling all inspired inside now and this makes for a good feeling. Just a few notes from lecture:
Photography influences and changes us. It is full of interpretation.
Art is supposed to transfix us, grip us.
It takes more than owning a camera to be a photographer.
Photographs are something that we see every day. They will influence our culture and society for centuries. This is the real job.
"We have to rely on reality, but we're not a slave to it." -Paul Adams
Photographers change the world.
Yes, I took that picture. You steal it and I will come after you and eat you.
This is my apology to SeaWorld, for thinking they must not have known what they were doing. I decided that my manatee wind-up toy must really be a Stellar's Sea Cow. Compare tails, if you will.
Because I have been asleep on the couch for what has been nearly the past two hours, I have decided that I am actually going to bed RIGHT NOW. The end.
I have nothing of which to really blog about. Except to say that General Conference was the most wonderful experience EVER, I met President Monson, and umm... Oh yeah. I can hardly wait for Thursday when Conference talks become available on the web. The end.
It's amazing how much further my money goes when I can't go anywhere to spend it. Why didn't I think of this earlier? Oh, I know. Because I need to buy food sometimes.
If you can name that movie, you win ten billion points!
So, Lola has died. Sort of. K, she's not actually dead dead, but I did have to leave her at the garage yesterday because she is one sick car. It's all sad and stuff. Especially since I'm wanting to go home on Friday and I don't know how I'll get there. Hm. What a complex.
I need to be banned from taking naps. I just slept for two hours and I'm still tired. So much for getting all my Monday homework done!
Groceries. Do you think Lola will let me go get groceries? Let us pray that she does, otherwise I will be one hungry not-small person in a few very short days.
