Taiwan is Safe.... Mostly

Another fun adventure in the world of Taiwan.

Last night Heather and I went grocery shopping. We stopped at the bakery to buy some bread (there were only two loaves of wheat bread left, so we each bought one), and across the street from the bakery is the fruit stand, so Heather stopped there as well to get some apples. P.S. We were riding our bicycles. This is important.

After finishing up at the bakery, we rode our way over to the 24 hour store (a grocery store here in Taiwan). Heather made a comment that she didn't really want to carry her bread inside with her. "Just leave it in your basket," I said. "That's what I always do, and I've never had anything happen to it. Jenny is the one who taught me to do that." So, we both left our bread in our bike baskets and went inside. I think we were not in there for very long, maybe 20 minutes TOPS (but probably closer to 10 or 15). As we were approaching our bikes, Heather said something along the lines of "You have got to be kidding me!" ran over to her bike, and, yup. Her bread and her apples were gone. But, don't worry, even though my bike was right next to hers, my bread was still in the basket. Also, Heather still had her pineapple.

I'm voting it was some homeless person that was starving and saw her bread and apples. He didn't take the pineapple because he had no knife with which to slice it open, and he didn't steal my bread because, hey, one loaf is plenty for any person, and I didn't have any other food in my basket.

Moral of the story? It's fine to leave groceries in your bicycle baskets, but if you're going to do that, then you should probably park on the street side of the store instead of the alley way..

Preparations nearly complete!

I HAVE A VISA NOW! (And I'm not talking about the plastic money kind). It came in the mail while I was in Provo for training last weekend. Other things that have come in the mail that I've been waiting for for a while include my new purse (I bought it on Etsy and it was made in Japan, and I think it is the most beautiful purse I have every seen) and Teng Men, my new iPod Touch!

That's really all I can remember that I wanted to blog about. I am pretty sure there were other things, but I guess they were not that important.

New Years in Vegas

New Year day I took a little trip down to Vegas with a couple of my friends. Mostly just so I could get out and do something, not because it was Vegas (I still don't really care for Vegas, for the record). Anyway, it was fun, and pictures were taken.

First stop was Mimi's because we were all starving. Melissa was thoughtful enough to bring me toys to play with while we were waiting for our food to come .

We went to a mall and found this really pink store. I think Mel was in paradise.

Our hott sunglasses we found at Claire's
So sweet.

Lindsey wanted gelato from the Bellagio, so we went there and wandered the gardens while we were at it.

Hey, kids.

Remember how I told you I was selling a calendar over at yonder Etsy? Well, I've got a second option available now! (But I really need at least 2 of the first option to sell. Just sayin'.) You can preview it here and see it in my shop here. Also, my first order of the first calendar arrived to day and I have to say that they are pretty awesome!

Etsy Prints?

So, I've been thinking about this for a while and I've maybe had a few encouraging comments from some people, but I need help making decisions.

So anyway, there's this place online called Etsy.com. Maybe you've heard of it ("Your place to buy and sell all things handmade"). Going along with their motto, I've been sore tempted to try to sell some of my photography on their site (I would sell clay things, but I haven't time or supplies for that right now). What I need from you, faithful readers, is input. A) Do I go through with this idea? and B) If so, which prints do I offer to be sold?

This Link includes everything I have posted under the "photography" label. Below you will find a few of my "favorite" images.

The California's Macy's

So, back when I was a student bunny at the Y, I never really liked to shop at Macy's. Give me a Harmon's or an Albertson's any day, but Macy's really wasn't my cup of cocoa. (I know, I know. Great deals and all that, but it feels like a warehouse, and I'm not really into that kind of thing.)

But then I moved to California, where Harmon's doesn't exist and Albertson's is smaller, and no one sells Rhodes Rolls! You can't even begin to imagine the heartache I've been feeling about this. Also the stomach pangs. Pangs of sadness and loss. I was starting to think that I've been doomed to live out the rest of my days without ever again eating another Chilly roll (I plan to make them like you do).

And then I had the bright idea to go to Rhodes' website and click on their product locator. That's when I discovered that Food 4 Less sells them! There was driving and maybe the attacking of the freezer door when I saw them, and then there was rejoicing. I could almost ignore the fact that Food 4 Less is practically the same thing as Macy's. I may not shop there on a regular basis, but I can guarantee that this will be the first place I look when I need more rolls in my life.

The Iowa Story Vol. 4
Tuesday, May 15, 2007
♦ 5/15/2007 11:30:00 AM 2 comments

My last night in Iowa was full of adventure. Actually, the whole day was.

Love Duck's grandmother made us a birthday cake that morning so we went over in the early afternoon and helped decorate it. (I'd show you a picture, but I don't have any of those yet.) We made a beautiful rainbow and then blew out some candles. Of course I made a wish, but the wait to see if it comes true is going to be a mighty long wait. I'm just going to say that. It was great fun. The cake was pretty good, but I decided I'm not such a fan of lemon/strawberry flavored frostings. Just leave it at chocolate, rainbow chip, or vanilla, please.

Love Duck and I then drove down to Des Moines to this way awesome shopping mall where we almost got lost on the way there because her mother had told us to turn at the light, so we did, but it wasn't THE light. And that was exciting trying to get back on the road. But we found it soon after that and arrived safely in A Shopper's Heaven.

Our first stop was Brighton where Love Duck purchased a gift for her mother (due to the holiday that occurred on Sunday). Our next stop was somewhere that I will not mention, but items were purchased there by one or both party members and shall be kept secret for the duration of my life. So don't ask, because I won't tell. This one's going with me to the grave.

And then we had an adventure because Love Duck's stomach was suddenly acting quite odd. It was nice for me to be able to sit down for a few, though, because I was wearing some not-nice walking shoes.

We went to a few other stores, but then, THEN, we found Sephora and I fell in love with make-up all over again. But not the prices. So I didn't buy anything. But I wanted to! And I still do. But it's dang expensive and I don't actually NEED make-up or anything like unto it because I've got plenty and I don't even use most of what I have (as is evidenced by the fact that I've had some of it since 9th grade and beyond).

It was around this time that we decided we were hungry for food, so we walked on over to my favorite place ever, ordered enough food for four, ate enough for two (well, I did), and began to feel very... full. So full that apparently my eyes sort of watered up as I told Love Duck that I needed to go lie down (so she said, I didn't notice any watering going on). We wobbled out of there and went to the car where we rolled down the windows and I leaned the seat back as far as it could possibly go before turning on my stomach and stretching out. And, even though I could hardly breathe, it felt wonderful and I was soon able to move and walk like a person again rather than a skin-covered blob.

The rest of the shopping adventure was short lived because the mall was about to close, but we did go back to Sephora and Love Duck bought me my birthday present (some luscious lip gloss that I had wanted from the moment I first found it).

Because the mall was closing we left, obviously, and made our trek to the Ghetto. You think I'm joking, but I'm totally not. I was sort of afraid for our lives and very afraid that Love Duck's car might be in non-existence the next morning when we would need it to get me to the airport. See, Love Duck's Aunt S lives in the Ghetto and has lived there since before it was actually ghetto; we were staying at her apartment so that we wouldn't have to get up so early the next morning to get me to my plane back to Utah. Anyway, Aunt S met us outside and walked us to her apartment. Kitty Shoby from Mars was then introduced to me (the cat, perhaps not so obviously) and actually let me pet her, which I guess Kitty Shoby isn't really a people cat, but hey. No complaints here.

The next morning Love Duck's car was found safe and sound and we got me to the airport with plenty of time and I had no problem getting on my flights.

Also, this may or may not be post number 400.

The Jean Pool

So I realized this morning that I don't have any jeans here in Santa Horhe to take with me if it happens to be cold in Iowa. Not smart. My mother told me to go out to the mall and see if I could find any. I think I found, like, the best bargain ever! $10.61 (tax included) for a pair of jeans. I should have bought two, but I didn't.

And the second best part of it all is that they FIT me and don't fall off! I only had to try on two pairs!

Always remember: wherever you go, there you are!

So, I don't know if I've mentioned it yet, but I'm going to Disneyland and Seaworld next month. In fact, a month from now and I'll already be DONE in California.

And this is what my daddy just bought me for when we're walking around. They are SO comfortable!
