Happy Pioneer Day

I couldn't find the picture I wanted to use, so instead, you get a pictureless post (Mom, you will probably know which one I wanted as soon as you read this.)

Today is Pioneer Day in Utah. And so today I am grateful for the sacrifice that my ancestors made. All the sacrifices. I am grateful to them for not giving up, for pressing forward with Faith and Enduring to the End, even in the face of hardships and when it seemed like they would lose everything dear to them.

One of my ancestors, probably the one I know the most about was the daughter of James and Eliza Hurren. She suffered such a severe case of frostbite that a doctor urged amputation of her legs to save her life. This little girl didn't walk a thousand miles to have her legs cut off! She lived a long life (with her legs), and made a big difference to our family.

Once upon a time, this crazy girl (known as Claire, apparently) on the right went on a mission (you may remember that we burned her miniskirts once- that was awesomeness defined).

Blessed moment tonight! I'm puttering around on the internets (actually, I was submitting an application for a job. Go me! Way to be productive, self.) and she GOT ONLINE!!!! AHHHHH! I was so excited.

Anywhos, one of the messiest and most-loved roommates of my life has returned from her mission and is back in California. And, being that I am also in California (for a few weeks longer), we may see each other! (I'm not going to hold my breath on it too much, though. Busy people and all that.)

So, the end.

I now only have 1 roommate and 1 friend left on missions. Oh, and 1 cousin. Can't forget him.

Feel the power!

I just discovered the power of Raid. OMG. Amazing! Ah-mazing. Way faster and much more effective than hairspray when it comes to killing ants. Why did I not try this before? I killed like a gazillion bugs in one swift spray! AMAZING!!!!!

Ok, so I'm a little excited. But incredibly well pleased.

Teenagers.
♦ 7/18/2009 12:41:00 PM 0 comments

It is a well-known fact that I have little patience for teenagers. Especially teenagers that are almost out of their teens, such as 18- and 19-year olds. (Sorry, teenagers. Please don't hate me. This is just a general thing and it might not even apply to you!) There have been, in the recent past, even, a few people in this age group that I have been able to make friends with. But in general, these teenager peoples just drive me bagonkers!

It is not the end of the world when someone new moves into the house you are living in. Especially when that someone lives at the other end of the house and you only ever really see each other in Church on Sunday, despite the fact that you live together.

Also, I don't want to listen to your movie from my room.

Also, your taste in music may not be terrible, but I have music, too, and I would prefer to listen to mine, quietly, without having to listen to yours, loudly.

And, actually, considering the fact that teens annoy me, this is a small list and it's not that bad. Yet. Please bless it won't be that bad ever.

Oh, yeah. My room is getting floor today (yea?), so I'm at her end of the house until tomorrow. Then we can go back to pretending the other doesn't exist.

Welcome Back, Lola

4 days and many dollars later, Lola has returned to me.

Now, I don't speak Car Talk, so I don't really know what all was wrong with her or even understand why the hecks it took so freaking long to be done with the repair work, but apparently there was something about a wrong part and then something else about a different part... And, of course, them Boys didn't notice any of this on the same day, so it took two drives back to Victorville before we were able to actually take Lola home with us. You want the deets, you ask the dad. He has them. I think.

It was great having Dad here for the first 3 days of class, though. We had lunch together every day and it was awesome fun times. And who else has someone bring them Bengal BBQ (from Disneyland) for lunch? I submit that no one does.

Knights in shining armor? I do not need you. I have my Daddy.

More Adventures

Dear Readers,

Have you seen "Life is Beautiful?" If you have, then maybe you remember the part where Guido and his friend are staying at Eliseo Orefice's house. The friend mentions how, if you think something long enough and hard enough, it happens.

I have a feeling there have been some of you thinking too long and too hard about me blogging. Next time you want me to blog, please just ask nicely. Maybe give me a topic to blog about.

However, you thought it, you wished it, and now it has come to pass (proving the theory right)!

So, today I was to return to Anaheim. I left home around 1 or 1:30 this afternoon. My car was running nicely (or so I thought) and all was right with the world. And then I got into Arizona and my AC was no longer working. It was just blasting hot air at me. So I turned it off.

In case you weren't aware, today was a sweltering hot day in the West. How hot? Let me tell you.

There were very hot temperatures that I was driving through. With no air-conditioner. I stopped in Barstow to gas-up Lola again, I noticed that it was hotter in my car than outside of my car. I was kind of not OK with this and briefly thought about stopping for a few minutes, but I was anxious to be done driving, so I continued on. But only for about 20 minutes. Because 20 minutes later, Lola had had ENOUGH!!!! All sorts of lights started popping up on my dashboard. First the Engine Coolant Warning light came on. Then the little thermostat thingy shot up into the red zone. Then the Check Engine light came on. Then my car started to decellerate. Really fast, too. Luckily as soon as the first light came on I had the thought "I should pull over now." So I was alread to the slow lane by that time and was able to get out of the way of traffic pretty quick. And then the battery light came on. And I thought, "This is not awesome. I am alone, in the middle of no where, with hardly any water. I am going to die in this desert."

So, of course, I called home. Luckily I have a cell phone that was, as of this morning, fully charged (now it is down to one bar on the battery, but that's because I had to make good use of it while I was stuck in the desert). Parents called a tow truck and Dad started on his way to meet me (he should be here soon).

And then I waited.

And waited.

And waited.

The tow truck finally got to me at 6:30, two hours after I had first pulled over. I got checked in to the hotel at 7:30.

How did the pioneers do it? How on earth did they live in heat like that? HOW? I have a new-found appreciation for them and all that they sufferend through in this desert they call the West.

I also have a new-found grattitude for all those times when we pray that the car will run well and we will get to our destination in safety and we actually do.

Next time, I will not leave during the hottest part of the day. Next time I will leave when it is still dark. Next time will also be several weeks away.

Please bless that Lola will be OK soon (I have class on Monday! I NEED her!), and please only send me happy thoughts, not thoughts of adventures. I don't need any more adventures.

The Verdict
Wednesday, July 08, 2009
♦ 7/08/2009 03:43:00 PM 1 comments

So, long-time readers may remember how last September I had an x-ray done on my knee and they couldn't see anything wrong. Those were fun times! Despite the fact that the doctor couldn't see anything the matter with my knee didn't exactly help my knee to feel any better, though, and I've been suffering through intense/dull pain off and on since a year ago March. Finally I got in to see an Orthopedic today. And guess what?!

There's something wrong with my knee.

Whoa.

Who wouldn't thought? (I mean, besides me.) So, basically, when I injured my knee last year, I pushed the knee cap into the other bone and ruined the cartilage between the two bones. The orthopedic said that it was probably cracked and fractured a little bit. Usually this happens over time (a lot of time) due to over-use, so generally it's something that those who are Older and Wiser suffer from in their Old Age. Lucky me, I get to be Old before my Age. Unfortunately, it's kind of hard to treat. However, he did refer me to a physical therapist to try to strengthen my knee and also to get some orthopedic inserts for my shoes (I have flat feet, too? I never knew this before today).

Oh, but don't you worry. None of that is the fun stuff that happened.

First, he mentioned the word "shot." I felt woozy. Then he said "surgery" and I'm pretty sure all the blood drained away from my face. There was a lot of excitement in my heart as I was trying to go through the "check out" process and find a chair without passing out. By the time I was able to sit down, I couldn't see anything. Very Close Call.

Also combine this with the fact that I was already shaky (I think my blood sugar was low? I hadn't eaten lunch yet and I was Very Hungry) and that I have a headache today. Not good combinations.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
Friday, July 03, 2009
♦ 7/03/2009 07:37:00 PM 0 comments

Once upon a time, my hair was very, very sun-bleached from being outside in the California sun for many hours a day, many days a week, and many weeks a month, and many months a year. I had very sun-bleached hair. Case in point:

If you have heard me complain about my hair at all within the past month or so, then you know how much I hated the fact that I had acquired a blonde streak (and then some), and how much I hated the fact that my hair was getting lighter, and lighter, and lighter....

So then I got home and did something about it.

(Yes, very poor quality photo, but that's because it's from my webcam.) Soon I will have better quality pictures of me (I hope), but let it be known that I lovelovelove my hair. The end.

"Oh, yes. The important thing about having lots of things to remember is that you've got to go somewhere afterwards where you can remember them, you see? You've got to stop. You haven't really been anywhere until you've got back home. I think that's what I mean."
